Biography
Dallin DeGraffenried grew up surrounded with art created by his mother and grandfather--both talented artists and art educators. This support and exposure spurred a natural interest in the arts from a young age.
The art of Dallin focuses on recreating the world as people see and feel it with an emphasis on light, beauty, design, and love. He is always striving for improvement, learning, and progression in the arts. While attending Brigham Young University-Idaho, he studied under many successful educators and artists and he still considers these, and many other masters, to be a prime influence in his style, subjects, and design.
Dallin earned a Bachelor of Art from Brigham Young University-Idaho in 2018 with an emphasis in oil painting after earning an Associates of Science from Snow College in 2016.
Currently, Dallin lives in Seattle, Washington with his beautiful wife, and two children. He attends professional school at the University of Washington School of Dentistry and works part-time as a freelance and commissioned artist.

Artist Statement
"I can teach you to paint, but I can't teach you to see."--Mildred Jensen
As long as I can remember I have been exposed to, and involved in art in one way or another. My mom was--and continues to be--an inspiration to me. Mom's dad received his P.h.D in art education; consequently, Mom also pursued artistic studies and is currently an art educator. Frankly, not enough can be said of the support and inspiration I have received over the years from family, friends, and mentors.
I was only eight when Millie, my unofficial painting teacher, explained that art was a matter of "seeing". My mom and I had decided to take classes from her in order to better learn the art of oil painting. At that point in my art career, I hadn't made a tremendous amount of progress. Most of my memories from those classes consisted of getting unnecessarily messy with the oils and waiting till Millie would correct all my mistakes. It would be years later before I realized what she meant by "I can teach you to paint, but I can't teach you to see".
Today, the primary focus of my art is to re-create the natural world in the way people see and feel it. It is part of my artistic mission to learn how to "see" the world in the way that can never be taught: through discipline, observation, and continual practice. Hopefully, through achieving this naturalism in art, I might also be able to convey the emotions that inspired the design in the first place. I hope to help people feel the love of families, individuals, and of our ultimate Creator, and to inspire hope and peace in an otherwise tumultuous world.
